What prompted me to start implant treatment?

What prompted me to start implant treatment?

When I (the Chairman) was a working doctor, I learned about implant treatment from my senior colleagues at work, but I also attended various study groups in order to further my treatment techniques.

Meeting with my teacher

The instructor at one study group I attended was very enthusiastic and the content of the lecture was excellent and of a higher level than other study groups. Thanks to that instructor, I was able to improve my implant skills.

After taking the course, I practiced repeatedly and when my skills had improved, I went to see the doctor. The doctor looked over my treatment documents from top to bottom. I was starting to feel a bit more confident, so I was hoping he would praise me, but when he finished looking at the documents and looked up, he started to give me a series of harsh scoldings.

We had to pay close attention to the small details, such as the stitching here needs to be done in a different way, the length of the implant in this case is 13mm instead of 11mm, and the tooth next to the implant needs to be 0.5mm less. I was very shocked, but what the doctor said was true, and if we didn't do it perfectly down to the smallest details, it would cause trouble for the patient. I continued to study in order to grow even more.

A few years later, I went to see him again. Just like then, he looked over all of my treatment documents and said, "Hashimoto-kun, keep up the good work! Let me tell you something. As dentists, we offer treatments that involve drilling, extracting, and removing disease, and implant treatments that regenerate what has been lost. Treatments that involve removal can make patients feel negative. However, regeneration, that is, regaining what has been lost, can make patients happy. That is why I have dedicated my life to implant treatment. What do you think of that way of life?"

From then on, I decided to become an implant specialist because that was the answer to the question my mentor asked me.

About implant treatment

What to do after your implant treatment

What to do after your implant treatment

  1. Can chew firmlyYou can chew just as well as you would with your natural teeth, and enjoy your food to the fullest. Can chew firmly
  2. Looks natural and beautifulThey are highly aesthetic and indistinguishable from your natural teeth in terms of color and shape.
  3. Protect your teethThere is no need to attach brackets to the surrounding teeth or file them down, so
there is no strain on the other teeth.
  4. Prevents jawbone deteriorationThe bone in the area where teeth have been lost is no longer stimulated by chewing, so with dentures or bridges the bone will decrease.
Implants transmit the stimulation of chewing to the bone, preventing this from happening.

Disadvantages of Implants

  • Surgery will be required.
  • Depending on the patient's health condition, implant treatment may not be possible.
  • The treatment period is relatively long.
It takes about 3 to 6 months for the jawbone to bond with the implant, plus an additional month or two for diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Please refrain from smoking during implant treatment, as smokers are more likely to experience poor wound healing and persistent pain after surgery.
  • This treatment is not covered by insurance and will incur costs.
  • Regular check-ups every few months are necessary.
  • You need a strong jawbone.

For successful implant treatment

If the bone and implant do not bond, this can be due to bone density, diabetes, infection by periodontal bacteria, smoking, etc. In the unlikely event that the implant does not bond to the bone after treatment at our clinic, we will perform a reoperation free of charge. In particular, "smoking" is closely related to the success rate of implant surgery . Smoking makes you more susceptible to periodontal disease, which can impair blood flow and interfere with bone bonding after surgery. It is best to avoid smoking as much as possible during implant treatment.
